Make sure all the basic needs are met. (Food, dry diaper, appropriate clothing, burping.)
Offer the baby a pacifier.
Take the baby for a walk in a stroller.
Call a friend, relative, or neighbor to give you a break.
If all else fails, put the baby in his/her crib, make sure the baby is safe, close the door, check on the baby every 5 minutes or so.
If you are a child care provider and cannot handle a crying baby please let the parent know.
Make sure after immunizations the baby is comfortable and is taking its medications.
Sit down, close your eyes and take 20 deep breaths.
Relax, exercise, play music.

DO NOT PICK THE BABY UP AGAIN UNTIL YOU ARE CALM

Make sure licensed & insured
Call children & family services to verify if there have been any complaints.
Check and double check references.
Ask for a police clearance from daycare provider if not licensed.
Keep a log for drop off and pick up.
Never accept a sleeping baby.
Be aware of strangers in the home.
Listen to daycare provider if complaining baby is fussy.
Don’t be afraid to talk to your sitter about the dangers of SBS
